Auto-Tune Vocal Presets — Artist Pitch Correction Settings
Auto-Tune Vocal Presets — Artist-Specific Pitch Correction Settings
What Is Auto-Tune?
Auto-Tune is a pitch correction plugin that adjusts a singer's pitch in real-time. Originally designed to subtly fix off-key notes, it became a defining sound in modern music — from T-Pain's robotic effect to Travis Scott's melodic trap vocals.
Today, Auto-Tune (or pitch correction in general) is used on virtually every professional vocal recording. The difference between "natural" and "obvious" Auto-Tune comes down to one key setting: retune speed.
How Auto-Tune Works — The Key Parameters
Retune Speed (the most important setting)
This controls how fast Auto-Tune corrects the pitch. It's measured in milliseconds:
| Retune Speed | Effect | Used By |
|---|---|---|
| 0 ms | Instant correction — hard, robotic Auto-Tune effect | Travis Scott, T-Pain, Future |
| 5-15 ms | Fast correction — audible Auto-Tune, still musical | Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, Yeat |
| 15-30 ms | Medium correction — noticeable but natural | The Weeknd, Post Malone, Don Toliver |
| 30-50 ms | Slow correction — subtle, transparent tuning | Drake, Ariana Grande, most pop vocals |
| 50+ ms | Very subtle — barely noticeable pitch smoothing | Adele, Ed Sheeran, acoustic/folk |
Key & Scale
Set the key of your song so Auto-Tune knows which notes are correct. Wrong key = wrong corrections. If you're unsure, use the chromatic scale (corrects to the nearest semitone).
Humanize
Adds natural variation to sustained notes. Without it, long notes sound robotic. Set between 0 (fully robotic) and 100 (fully natural). Most vocals use 20-50.
Flex-Tune / Natural Vibrato
Controls how much Auto-Tune respects the singer's natural vibrato. Higher values preserve more natural expression.

Auto-Tune vs Manual Pitch Correction
| Auto-Tune (Real-Time) | Manual Pitch Correction | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Instant — correct while recording or in playback | Slow — edit each note by hand after recording |
| Use case | Live performance, stylistic effect, quick production | Transparent correction in final mix |
| Sound | Can range from subtle to obvious "Auto-Tune effect" | Always transparent if done well |
| Best for | Trap, hip-hop, pop, melodic rap | Ballads, acoustic, singer-songwriter |
| Popular tools | Antares Auto-Tune, Waves Tune Real-Time, FL Pitcher | Melodyne, Waves Tune, Logic Flex Pitch |
Our recommendation: Most modern producers use real-time Auto-Tune during recording for feel and vibe, then clean up with manual correction in the mix if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What retune speed should I use for Auto-Tune?
It depends on the style you want. For a hard, robotic effect (Travis Scott, T-Pain), use 0 ms. For melodic rap (Juice WRLD), use 10-15 ms. For subtle, natural correction (pop, R&B), use 30-50 ms. Our presets come with the retune speed pre-configured for each artist.
Is Auto-Tune cheating?
No. Auto-Tune is a creative tool, just like reverb or compression. Almost every professional recording uses some form of pitch correction. The question isn't whether to use it, but how much and in what style.
Do I need Antares Auto-Tune specifically?
No. There are many alternatives: Waves Tune Real-Time, FL Pitcher (free in FL Studio), Logic Pro Pitch Correction (free in Logic), Soundtoys Little AlterBoy, and others. Our presets work with multiple pitch correction plugins — check each product page for compatibility.
Can Auto-Tune fix a bad singer?
Auto-Tune can correct pitch but it can't fix timing, emotion, or delivery. The better the raw vocal performance, the better Auto-Tune will sound. Think of it as polish, not a replacement for practice.
What key should I set Auto-Tune to?
Set it to the key of your beat/song. If you don't know the key, use a key detection plugin or website. As a last resort, use the chromatic scale — it corrects to the nearest note regardless of key, but it's less precise.
Why does my Auto-Tune sound bad?
Common issues: wrong key setting, retune speed too fast for your style, singing too far off-pitch (Auto-Tune works best when you're close), or recording quality issues (background noise confuses pitch detection). Our presets help eliminate most of these issues with pre-configured settings.
