How to Install Vocal Presets in FL Studio — Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Installing vocal presets in FL Studio takes about 2 minutes. Whether you're on FL Studio 12, 20, 21, or 24 — the process is the same. Here's exactly how to do it.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

• FL Studio installed (any version — Producer Edition or higher recommended for vocal recording)
• Your downloaded vocal preset pack (you'll receive a .zip file after purchase)
• A file extraction tool (Windows: built-in or 7-Zip / Mac: built-in Archive Utility)

Step 1: Download and Unzip the Preset Pack

After purchasing from TuneDrip, you'll receive a download link. Click it to download the .zip file. Then:

• Windows: Right-click the .zip file → "Extract All" → Choose a location you'll remember
• Mac: Double-click the .zip file — it extracts automatically

Inside the extracted folder, you'll find preset files organized by type (EQ, compression, reverb, etc.) or as a complete Mixer state file.

Step 2: Open FL Studio and Your Project

Launch FL Studio and open the project you want to add the vocal preset to. If you're starting fresh, create a new project.

Important: Make sure you have an audio track with your vocal recording. If you haven't recorded yet, that's fine — you can load the preset first and record after.

Step 3: Select a Mixer Channel

In FL Studio's Mixer (press F9 to open it):

1. Click on the Mixer channel where your vocal is routed (or any empty channel)
2. If your vocal track isn't routed yet, right-click the channel in the Channel Rack and select "Route to this track"

Step 4: Load the Preset

There are two ways to load vocal presets in FL Studio:

Method A: Loading Individual Plugin Presets

If your preset pack contains individual plugin presets (separate files for EQ, compressor, reverb, etc.):

1. Click on an empty Insert Slot in the Mixer channel
2. Select the plugin (e.g., Parametric EQ 2, Fruity Limiter, Fruity Reverb 2)
3. In the plugin window, click the preset menu (top-left dropdown or the folder icon)
4. Navigate to your extracted preset folder
5. Select the preset file → Load
6. Repeat for each plugin in the vocal chain

Method B: Loading a Complete Mixer State

If your preset pack includes a complete Mixer state file (.fnk or Mixer state):

1. Right-click on the Mixer channel strip
2. Select "Load mixer track state" or "File → Open mixer track state"
3. Navigate to your extracted preset file
4. Select and load — all plugins in the chain load at once

Step 5: Test and Adjust

Play your vocal recording through the preset. You should hear the difference immediately. If something doesn't sound right:

• Too much reverb? — Find the reverb plugin in the insert chain and reduce the wet/dry mix
• Too compressed? — Reduce the threshold or ratio in the compressor
• Too bright/harsh? — Adjust the EQ's high-frequency settings
• Auto-Tune not working? — Make sure the key is set correctly in FL Pitcher or your pitch correction plugin

Using FL Pitcher (FL Studio's Built-In Auto-Tune)

FL Studio includes FL Pitcher for real-time pitch correction — it's essentially a free Auto-Tune alternative. To use it with your preset:

1. Add FL Pitcher to an insert slot BEFORE the other effects in the chain
2. Set the key of your song using the on-screen keyboard
3. Adjust the "Speed" knob: left = fast correction (hard Auto-Tune), right = slow correction (natural)
4. Turn on "Replace" mode for the standard Auto-Tune sound

FL Studio also includes NewTone for manual pitch editing — useful for fixing specific notes after recording.

Troubleshooting

"Plugin not found" error

This means the preset uses a plugin you don't have installed. Check the product page for the list of required plugins. Most TuneDrip presets use FL Studio stock plugins, but some may require third-party plugins like Waves or Antares.

No sound after loading preset

Check that your vocal track is routed to the correct Mixer channel. Also verify that the Mixer channel output is set to the Master.

Preset sounds different from the demo

Every voice is different. The preset is a starting point — adjust the EQ and compression to match your specific voice. Also check that your recording levels are similar to what the preset expects (peak around -6dB to -3dB).
